Using a Chromium based browser (Desktop Chrome/Edge/Opera/Vivaldi/Brave - latest version)? We now have a CaminoMap browser only. Has some limitations (eg doesn't process RAW files) but otherwise works just fine.
Camino Map is a small Windows desktop utility that turns a folder of trip photos and GPS track files into an interactive map you can browse in your web browser. It lives in your system tray, extracts GPS/EXIF data from your photos (including Sony `.arw` RAW files), matches photos to your recorded GPS tracks when a photo has no GPS of its own, and serves an interactive. Leaflet map with a photo viewer ("lightbox") and a "Hike" playback mode that steps through your photos in the order you actually walked or drove them.
It was built to organize photos from hiking/cycling trips (the Camino de Santiago being the original use case) but works for any trip where you havea folder of photos and a folder of `.tcx` GPS track files.
Features
- **System tray app.** Runs quietly in the background; double-click the tray icon or choose **Trips** from its menu to open the trip manager.
- **Multiple trips.** Each trip is stored as its own local SQLite database under `%AppData%\CaminoOnScreen`, so you can keep several trips separate.
- **Photo extraction.** Scans a photos folder (`.arw`, `.jpg`, `.jpeg`, `.png`), reads embedded EXIF/GPS data, generates JPEG previews, and writes the results to `photos_data.json` in your chosen output folder.
- **GPS interpolation.** Loads `.tcx` track files from a tracks folder and interpolates GPS coordinates for photos that don't have their own GPS tag, so every photo can be placed on the map.
- **Interactive map.** Built on Leaflet with marker clustering; toggle track lines and photo markers on/off, and filter by GPS source (EXIF-only, interpolated-only, or all).
- **Photo viewer.** Click a marker to open a lightbox with next/previous navigation, rotate, brightness adjustment, and the ability to hide a photo from the album without deleting the source file.
- **Hike mode.** Auto-advances through your photos in chronological/hiking order at an adjustable speed, like a slideshow of your trip.
- **Import existing albums.** If you already have a processed `photos_data.json` (e.g., copied from another machine), you can import the output folder directly without re-running extraction.
- **Single-instance.** Launching the app again while it's already running simply brings the existing trip manager to the front instead of starting a second copy.
How to use it
### 1. Launch the app
Run the executable. On first launch it opens your default browser to the trip manager (`http://localhost:8000/trips.html`) and adds an icon to your system tray. Closing the browser tab does not stop the app — use **Stop** from the tray icon's right-click menu to shut it down, or **Trips** to reopen the manager.
### 2. Create a trip
From the trip manager, add a new trip and provide:
- **Photos folder** — where your source photos (including RAW files) live.
- **Tracks folder** — where your `.tcx` GPS track files live (optional; used for interpolating GPS on photos that lack it).
- **Output folder** — where processed data, previews, and the generated `photos_data.json` / `tracks_data.json` will be written.
You can also tune processing options: whether to decode full RAW files or use the faster embedded JPEG preview, half-size output, JPEG quality, and the number of parallel worker threads.
### 3. Extract
Click **Extract** to start processing. The app scans your photos folder, reads GPS/EXIF metadata, interpolates missing GPS from your tracks, and generates preview images. Progress is shown live; you can cancel an in-progress extraction at any time. Once complete, the trip is marked **Done** and the map becomes available.
### 4. View the map
Open the trip to see your photos and tracks plotted on an interactive map. Use the toolbar to toggle tracks/photos on or off, filter by GPS source, and click any photo marker to open the photo viewer. Inside the photo viewer you can step through photos, rotate or brighten an image, hide unwanted photos, or press **Hike** to auto-play through the trip in order.
### 5. Re-running or updating a trip
Re-extracting a trip preserves any rotation or hidden-photo edits you've already made, so you can safely re-run extraction after adding new photos to the same folder.

3. **YOUR DATA, YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.** The Software reads and writes files on your local machine, including your photo library, GPS track files, and metadata. You are solely responsible for maintaining independent backups of any photos, tracks, or other files before processing them with the Software. The author(s) accept no responsibility for lost,
corrupted, overwritten, or modified files.
4. **LOCAL WEB SERVER.** The Software runs a local web server on `localhost:8000` to serve its interface. You are responsible for your own network and firewall configuration. The Software is not intended to be exposed to, or accessed over, an untrusted network, and no warranty is made regarding its security posture if configured to do so.
5. **NO SUPPORT OBLIGATION.** The author(s) are under no obligation to provide maintenance, support, updates, enhancements, or modifications for the Software.
6. **RESTRICTIONS ON USE.** Unless you have obtained separate written permission from the author(s):
- You may not redistribute, sublicense, sell, rent, or lease the Software or any portion of it, in source or compiled form.

8. **INDEMNIFICATION.** You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the author(s) from any claim, demand, loss, or damage, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your use of the Software or your violation of these Terms.
9. **TERMINATION.** These Terms and your right to use the Software terminate automatically and without notice if you fail to comply with any provision herein. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the Software and destroy all copies in your possession.
10. **NO ENDORSEMENT.** Use of the Software does not constitute an endorsement of any trip, route, or activity depicted in your data, and the author(s) are not responsible for the accuracy of any map, GPS track, or location data displayed by the Software.
11. **CHANGES TO THESE TERMS.** These Terms may be updated at any time without prior notice. Continued use of the Software after any such change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
12. **GOVERNING LAW.** These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws applicable in the author's jurisdiction, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
